Hollywood wins U.K. piracy battle

LONDON -- The Hollywood studios have won a landmark legal victory in the U.K. against online pirates. Blighty's top telco BT has been ordered by Hon. Justice Arnold in the Royal Courts of Justice in London to shut down access to file-sharing website Newzbin2, which he deemed guilty of copyright infringements. BT, which is the U.K.'s biggest Internet service provider with 6 million customers, has 14 days to comply with the order. Wednesday's judgment confirmed a ruling made by the same judge on July 28. The case, which was brought by 20th Century Fox, Universal, Warner Bros., Paramount, Disney and Columbia Pictures, is the first of its kind in Blighty. It creates a precedent, which will allow the studios to move against similar sites. The film biz reacted with overwhelming praise for the court's decision. David Puttnam, prexy of the Film Distributors' Assn., said: "This is a very significant day for the U.K.'s creative industries. The law is clear. Industrial online piracy is illegal and can be stopped." Chris Marcich, prexy and m.d. for Europe, Middle East and Africa for the Motion Picture Assn., said: "This is a win for the creative sector. Securing the intervention of the ISPs was the only way to put the commercial pirates out of reach for the majority of consumers. This move means that we can invest more in our own digital offerings delivering higher quality and more variety of products to the consumer." BT will be liable for all costs associated with the action, and has also been instructed to block any new website that Newzbin2 sets up. Contact Leo Barraclough at leo.barraclough@variety.com

Adult-oriented pics like 'Moneyball' and '50/50' tend to hold onto auds.'Moneyball'The summer blockbuster formula of saturation releases and quick playoffs has given way to the fall's crop of adult-skewing films, designed to go the distance.Sony's Brad Pitt starrer "Moneyball" and cancer dramedy "50/50," from Summit, saw the weekend's best holds among the top 10, down 27% and 25%, respectively. By comparison, Sony's "The Social Network," which opened with $23 million and had dropped 29% in its fourth frame, had cumed $73 million by this time last year. "The Social Network" ended up with almost $97 million domestically.Summit's "50/50," meanwhile, reached $25.6 million as of Oct. 19, a three-times multiple so far, though its opening bar ($8.6 million) was much lower than "Moneyball's" and the film has just three weeks of playtime.Last year, the distrib's sturdy adult offering "Red" opened with $21.8 million; midway through its third frame, that film had yet to cume a comparable three-times multiple. Paranormal Activity 3: Film Review

Horror movie franchises would be the motion picture same as junk food restaurants -- the crowd feels comfortable since it knows precisely what it is going to get. Such may be the situation using the third installment of Paramount's low-budget cash cow series. While not exactly breaking any new ground using its right now very familiar found-footage format, Paranormal Activity 3 hews towards the formula in skillfully crafted fashion, mustering in the requisite scares and more. Without any Saw follow up to supply competition this season, this ought to be the secret-or-treaters' movie choice in October.our editor recommendsParanormal Activity 3 Trailer Hits the net Newcomer company directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who've some knowledge about faux documentaries (Catfish), have worked with with coming back film writer Christopher Landon to effectively reprise the series' trademark elements. But this edition--a prequel that concerns the more youthful versions from the adult siblings in the first couple of-is tight and more frightening compared to previous installment. Additionally, it features ample doses of humor that both supplies a pressure valve for that tension and brings a welcome self-conscious mockery towards the proceedings. Following a preamble featuring Katie Featherston and Sprague Grayden briefly reprising their roles because the ill-fated brothers and sisters Katie and Kristie, the storyline dates back to 1988, when their childhood selves (Chloe Csengery, Jessica Brown) live in a properly-hired suburban California home with mother Julie (Laurie Bittner) and her boyfriend Dennis (Chris Cruz). PHOTOS: Legendary Horror Movies Things inevitably begin to go bump within the evening, and also, since Dennis is really a wedding videographer he's well outfitted to blanket the home using the camcorders which will supply the kind of spooky footage have a tendency to appears to in some way find yourself as movies within our multiplexes. One of the creepier elements the filmmakers have devised are Kristi's interactions by having an imaginary, ill-tempered playmate named Toby and a game title of "Bloody Mary" (suggested at within the film's trailer having a scene that is not within the feature) that goes serious awry. However the most ingenious idea can also be wonderfully simple. Additionally towards the stationary and hands-held cameras formerly employed, there's a jerry-rigged camera on the gradually rotating oscillating fan providing you with a few of the most frightening moments. Such sequences as you including a babysitter who most likely will not be coming back to dedicate yourself this family in the near future, the crowd needs to hold back breathlessly because the camera pans backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards, gradually revealing the terrible goings-on. Although there's an undeniably repetitive aspect towards the films, audiences most likely will not mind greatly. And definitely this series, even though it fortunately does not want to use gimmicky three dimensional, fairly demands to appear around the giant screen. Resembling motion picture versions of "Where's Waldo," the flicks demand intense concentration because the audience peers in the frame attempting to place the element that does not belong. As always, the climax, where the family helps make the mistake of retreating towards the sweet grandmother's (Hallie Foote) house, replaces the environment of mystery by having an very explicit explication for what's been happening. However it does effectively fulfill its dependence on setting some misconception for that inevitable next installment. One does not require a Ouija Board to discern that it'll most likely arrive sometime around next Halloween. Hindsight (Pureun sogeum)

A CJ Entertainment presentation of the Media and Cinema Studioblue production. (Worldwide sales: CJ Entertainment, Seoul.) Created by Ahn Soo-hyun, Lee Hyeon-seung. Executive producer, Katherine Kim. Directed, compiled by Lee Hyeon-seung.With: Song Kang-ho, Shin Sae-kyung, Chun Jung-myung, Lee Jong-hyeok, Kim Min-jun, Yoon Yeo-jeong, Esom.Splendid setpieces along with a typically charming perf from Korean celebrity Song Kang-ho accumulates to not so much whatsoever in "Hindsight." The lengthy-anticipated return of Lee Hyeon-seung, director of "Il Mare" (remade Stateside as "The River House"), this aesthetically pleasing but confused and unfulfilling thriller follows a upon the market gangster whose friendship having a teenage sharpshooter can lead to love or dying. Pic underperformed in your area in September, garnering only 5.6 billion won ($4.8 million), even though its helmer's repetition brings some worldwide attention, it's prone to remain a cult item. Like a lot of thrillers going to undermine their very own climax, the pic opens having a existence-or-dying standoff. Elfin markswoman Se-bin (Shin Sae-kyung) takes are designed for upon the market Seoul gangster Doo-heon (Song) and shoots him at point-blank range. Yarn then flashes to the cooking class in which the pair met: Doo-heon intends to open a cafe or restaurant serving his gangster friends, much like he's observed in Hong Kong movies, while Se-bin seems to become a typical sulky teen, annoyed by Doo-heon's lack of ability to organize food correctly. Because it works out, Se-bin used to be an aggressive shooter in line for that national title, but her prospects were cut short by injuries sustained inside a vehicle accident. Whilst not clearly mentioned, it's implied she lent money from Busan's crime syndicate, and also to repay it, she recognized an agreement to kill Doo-hoen. Doo-heon's flirty character starts to melt Se-bin's icy veneer, but her woman friend Eun-jung (Esom) attempts to run him lower, apparently to help her friend, although Se-bin never requested her to do this. Doo-hoen erroneously concludes gangsters want him and heads to Seoul to research, resulting in further harmful complications and misconceptions. Knotty plot particulars along with a nagging opacity about character motivations keep your story from flowing easily. Nevertheless, you will find several memorable moments: Lee's handling of the knife fight in Doo-heon's kitchen is masterful, along with a climactic vehicle chase through South Korea's farmland and subsequent shootout are exquisitely recognized. These moments are individually well-directed, which makes it even more disappointing the script never finds its groove. A whole lot worse, the overlong drama concludes by having an absurd coda completely at odds using what precedes it. Song juggles dramatic and fanciful moments with aplomb, his easy charm as commanding as always. Composed to appear like some manga artist's malevolent daydream, Shin still handles to become credible being an psychologically conflicted youthful lady. As Doo-heon's scar-faced buddy, One-Eye, Chun Jung-myung is intriguing but never quite emerges like a three-dimensional character. HD lensing by Kim Byung-search engine optimization ("Castaway around the Moon") provides a glorious postcard from the city's beaches and roads. Seem is really as crisp because the images are beautiful, and also the jazz-flecked score by Kwon Sang-min and Han So-yeon reps a classy delight. Korean title, which riffs on Doo-heon's dependence on cooking, means "blue salt."Camera (color, widescreen, HD), Kim Byung-search engine optimization editors, Kim Sang-bum, Yoo Sang-yup music, Kwon Sang-min, Han So-yeon production designer, Lee '-jun costume designer, Choi Se-yeon seem (Dolby Digital), Sang Ji-youthful, Hong Ye-youthful connect producer, Lee Sang-moo. Kanye West and Jay-Z Sued for Allegedly Sampling Soul Musician

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic/Getty Images Syl Johnson, a respected musician who created many successful blues and soul songs in the 1960s and 1970s, has filed a lawsuit against hiphop superstars Kanye West and Jay-Z over an allegedly uncleared sample on the duo's latest album, Watch the Throne.our editor recommendsTop 10 Highest Paid Music ArtistsHow Jay-Z and Kanye West Beat the Leakers With 'Watch the Throne'Jay-Z and Kanye West's 'Watch the Throne': Track-by-Track In a complaint filed in Illinois federal court on Friday, Johnson claims the two famous hip hop artists plus UMG and Def Jam took a portion of his song, "Different Strokes," used it on a song entitled "The Joy," and released it in August without his permission and without giving him any credit or payment. PHOTOS: Top 10 Highest Paid Music Artists Johnson says that West originally wanted to use the sample for his own solo album entitled My Beautiful Dark Twisted Family, but that the defendant was unable to obtain permission at the time of release. After failure to clear a license for the sample on one album, West's use of the sample on another album without permission is said to be an example of knowing and willful misappropriation. Over the years, many elder musical artists have become sensitive about illegal sampling from newer acts, and few musicians have been as litigious on this score as Johnson, who has brought to court, among others, Michael Jackson, Jefferson Airplane and Cypress Hill. He's also successfully gotten other artists, from Wu Tang Clan to Kid Rock, to pay up for use of samples. In August, when Watch the Throne was released, Johnson's label, the Numero Uno Group, was quick to point to this legal success, writing on its blog, "Two decades and several lawsuits later, Syl Johnson is a veteran of copyright infringement cases, and has done very well for himself clearing samples from his fertile catalog...for use in numerous tracks...Island Def Jam seems to think that Syl doesn't have any fight left in him. We're betting otherwise." Despite the bravado, Johnson's legal battles have not been without some stumbles and question marks.. Take the long-running $29 million lawsuit against Cypress Hill, accused of illegally sampling Johnson's 1969 song, "Is It Because I'm Black," on the group's 1993 sophomore album, Black Sunday. Johnson's lawsuit was eventually dismissed in 2008; a judge found that his claims failed because under the Copyright Act, sound recordings made before February 15, 1972 are not subject to copyright protection. The Seventh Circuit Court of Appealsupheld the dismissalthis past summer, leading Johnson to sue his own lawyers for malpractice for providing allegedly shoddy representation. Johnson believed that a state law misappropriation claim should have been made instead of a federal copyright allegation. In Johnson's latest lawsuit, the musician is careful to dance around potential defects in a claim over the illegal sampling of "Different Strokes," which was released in 1967. Johnson claims a copyright on the music composition in his latest lawsuit and also says he enjoys rights on the original sound recording via Illinois common law. The latter claim will likely be challenged soon by lawyers for Kanye and Jay-Z. At NYFF: Bill Murray, Gwyneth Paltrow and Wes Anderson Remember 'The Royal Tenenbaums' and the Cantankerous Gene Hackman

"In his introduction for Pedro Almodovar last night, Richard Pena made the point that after so many years and so many wonderful films, Almodovar is back at the NY Film Festival with a movie as new and as adventurous as any he's ever made. He's not intending to rest on his laurels," Wes Anderson said during his introduction for the 10th anniversary screening of 'The Royal Tenenbaums' at the NY Film Festival on Thursday night. "Which really struck a chord with me because that's what I've come here to do." Anderson could do far worse than resting on the laurels of 'Tenenbaums': it's arguably his best film and inarguably his most financially successful. Released on Dec. 14, 2001 -- just over three months after the terrorist attacks on 9/11 -- the now-quintessential NY film grossed $52 million at the domestic box office, grabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay (Anderson and co-star Owen Wilson), and, as Anderson said during the post-screening Q&A, took him out of the art-house ghetto for a little while. The good news is that 'The Royal Tenebaums' is as funny and heartbreaking as you remember (R.I.P. Buckley); the better news is that in honor of the film's 10th anniversary, Anderson and stars Gwyenth Paltrow, Bill Murray and Angelica Huston appeared at the Alice Tully Hall in NY's Lincoln Center to discuss the crowning achievement. Ahead, six observations from the night. "I'm not talking about dance lessons. I'm talking about putting a brick through the other guy's windshield. I'm talking about taking it out and chopping it up." While Paltrow, Murray and Huston appeared for the 10th anniversary, star Gene Hackman was not present for the festivities. Which was probably for the best, considering how much he intimidated Anderson. "I was [scared]. They weren't," Anderson said, though that wasn't actually true. "I was very scared," said Paltrow. Huston agreed: "I was a lot scared, but I was more concerned with protecting Wes." The fear of working with Hackman aside, Anderson said he couldn't imagine doing 'The Royal Tenenbaums without him. Something that almost happened. "Gene passed for a year and a half. He was sort of forced to do the movie and that was not fair, really. I just kept asking him and bothering him. I just wore him down. I didn't really have that much access to him, I don't know how I went about that. Eventually he just kind of caved." What caused the change of heart? Murray had at least one idea. "He's weak. Gene is weak," the star said to thunderous laughter. "When you challenge someone like Gene, you find his weakness. He's a great actor and he was great in the movie and all of us here hate Gene Hackman." Kidding. Probably. "Let's shag ass." The version of 'The Royal Tenebaums' that you've seen dozens of times actually isn't the version that premiered at the NY Film Festival ten years ago. That cut used many Beatles songs, for which Anderson wasn't able to secure the rights. Not that he didn't use all his connections in an attempt to get them. "I tried to bribe Paul McCartney," Paltrow said. "Sex and everything." There wasn't sex involved, but there was some... bowling? "I ended up taking him bowling, weirdly enough, with Heather Mills, his ex-wife, and Luke Wilson," she said. "Wes put me on a mission. 'You gotta get the rights!' He loved the movie, then we went bowling and he said he has nothing to do with the rights." Womp womp. Or as Murray summed it up: "Paul McCartney, too, is weak." "You made a cuckold of me." From top to bottom, the cast of 'The Royal Tenenbaums' was perfect, a fact that didn't escape Murray. "It was a great bunch. The other people are so big they didn't even have to come," Murray said, jokingly referring to Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Danny Glover, narrator Alec Baldwin and Hackman. "It was a great group of people. I liked the little kids a lot. They were not weak, those two. They were strong. It was a good job." In the film, Murray shares many scenes with Paltrow. Did he enjoy working with the Oscar winner? "To work with Gwyneth, I really loved working with Gwyneth," Murray said to laughter. "I don't want to say anything that you'll misinterpret, but I loved working with Gwyneth. She believes what I believe." Sounds like they had a ball. "That's the last time you put a knife in me!" What makes the same group of actors keep coming back to Wes Anderson films? "I don't want to say he's weak; that puts him in a category with McCartney and Hackman," said Murray, who has worked with Anderson five times. "I don't know if there's a word that says he's someone I look forward to working with again. I don't want to say exciting. 'Exciting?' I'm animated. I think he gets things out of people that they don't get out ordinarily. He makes us all do something different." Huston, who has done three films with the director, agreed: "He's someone I like to be around. He's somebody who you're happy to be included within his circle." Paltrow never worked with Anderson again, but he still ranks as one of her most challenging film bosses. "My word would be specific," when asked to describe Anderson. "I've never worked with any director who is so precise about not only what he wants, but it's far beyond that. I remember our first meeting in SoHo, and he was just explaining the role. 'She wears black eyeliner and her hair is kinda the color of your coat' -- camal -- 'and it's about to here, and she wears Izod dresses.' It was like, 'OK, great.' I felt so comfortable because he knew exactly what he wanted. It was constructed in such precise way and I had this freedom underneath it. I didn't have to worry about what I was doing." "Baby, I'm dying. I'm sick as a dog. I'll be dead in six weeks. I'm dying." One of the many great scenes in 'The Royal Tenenbaums' is when Royal tells his estranged wife Ethel that he's dying. Except he's not. Except he is. "That was my first scene with Gene Hackman and I was particularly terrified, because I could tell he wasn't in a very good mood that morning," Huston said. "It was a very cold morning, and I was wearing kid gloves, and in rehearsal, I slapped his lapel. When we went ahead and shot it, I hit him a really good. I saw the imprint of my hand on his cheek. It was pretty good; I really liked that scene." So did Anderson, since it got Hackman to say a line he had previously refused to utter. "The take we use is when you whacked him. I remember I was trying to get him to say goddamn," said the director. "He said he didn't want to say goddamn; he wanted to say damn because, 'They'll just change it later.' I said, 'Nobody is going to change it later.' He said, 'No, not saying it.' Then when you hit him he said, 'Goddamn.'" "I don't think you're an asshole, Royal. I just think you're kind of a son of a bitch." While much of the night was spent recalling Gene Hackman horror stories, the 'Tenenbaum' group agreed that he was not nearly as bad as they made him sound. "I loved working with him," said Paltrow. "I loved being in the same scenes as him. He was kind of a bear of a guy, but I also found something very sweet and sad in there. I liked him a lot. I think he's one of the greatest actors who ever lived. To be in his presence and watch him do his thing. It's like -- you know, you're Gene Hackman, you can be in a bad fucking mood." "I'll stick up for Gene too," said Murray. "I'd hear these stories, like, 'Gene threatened to kill me today.' 'He can't kill you, you're in a union.' 'Gene threatened to take all of us and set fire to us.' 'It's a union shoot, it's NY, he can't set fire to you.'" Hackman thankfully didn't light any fires, though Murray said he understood some of the rage issues when he visited the set one day for a scene between Hackman and Luke Wilson. "[Gene] does his thing and it takes about 50-60 seconds, and Luke blew his line 13 or 14 times. Luke Wilson. I thought Luke was good? He's not good. Because at the time, he was in love with this girl over here" -- Murray pointed at an embarrassed Paltrow -- "and he couldn't think straight. So that's the problem with Gene. He had to work with Luke who was dizzy in love and Kumar Pallana, every single day." Kumar Pallana played Hackman's onscreen sidekick, the immortal Pagoda. Hilary Swank Criticized for Attending Birthday of Chechen Leader Accused of Human Rights Violations

Over the summer it was revealed that Beyonce, 50 Cent, Mariah Carey and Nelly Furtado had performed for family members of former Libyan ruler Moammar Gadhafi for sums upward of $1 million. Now, another set of Hollywood stars are in hot water for taking money from a questionable foreign ruler: two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and action star Jean-Claude Van Damme attended Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov's birthday celebration last week in exchange for potential six-figure paydays. Said Human Rights Foundation in a statement to THR: "Ramzan Kadyrov is linked to a litany of horrific human rights abuses. It's inappropriate for stars to get paid to party with him. It bolsters his image and legitimizes a brutal leader and his regime. And getting paid to be part of such a lavish show in Chechnya trivializes the suffering of countless victims of human rights abuses there." The organization states that Swank was warned about Kadyrov's questionable past, but attended anyway. "Really, truly, for me this is a great honor to learn more about you and your country and what you're building," she told the crowd at the birthday party on Oct. 5. "And, um, happy birthday, Mr. President." Van Damme, meanwhile, said he "loved" Kadyrov. Stars Kevin Costner and Eva Mendes were also asked to attend, but both declined due to scheduling conflicts. Black Dove (Kueun kaimeki)

A Korean Film Council presentation from the M16 production. (Worldwide sales: M16, Seoul.) Produced by Ko Youthful-jun. Directed by Roh Gyeong-tae. Script, Kim Sang-tae.With: Lim Hyeong-guk, Cho Soo-hyuk, Jeong Yoon-kyung, Ahn Ji-hye, Yang Eun-yong, Jeong. (Korean dialogue)South Korean auteur Roh Gyeong-tae inches closer to conventional storytelling with "Black Dove," an austere mood piece in regards to the effects from the hit-and-run accident. Maintaining tight tonal remedies to have an account that 35mm slides very easily between past and provide, Roh supplies a cathartic experience for patient audiences, but his minimalist tempos are unlikely to click with a lot of general auds. Even though pic is much more accessible in comparison to helmer's experimental features "The Ultimate Dining Area Table" and "Land of Scarecrows," its future appears limited to local arthouses and fests following its world preem at Busan. Told as dual tales that inevitably meet inside a critical juncture, "Black Dove" opens at roughly the midway point. The estranged wife and youthful daughter of artist Lee Jon-ho (Cho Soo-hyuk) are actually hit with a mystery vehicle within an isolated intersection, an incident that leaves Jon-ho fighting to complete use an exhibit within the new gallery possessed by g.f. Min-hee (Ahn Ji-hye), with whom he was trysting throughout time from the collision. Keeping the fate of Jon-ho's family a mysterious until deep into the proceedings, the script introduces Lee Jun-gu (Lim Hyeong-guk), a college professor with clean-freak proclivities who's stuck in the pitifully loveless marriage to mousey wife Sun-mi (Jeong Yoon-kyung). Although little is mentioned inside the Lee household, it's immediately apparent the happy couple committed the hit-and-run. Masterfully mixing moments from pre and publish the accident, pic creates a effective study of guilt since it progressively consumes Jon-ho and Sun-mi. Irrationally accusing his relationship with Min-hee as the reason behind the accident, Jon-ho lashes out vocally and physically at his lover. Later, he starts employed in the coffee shop his wife opened up up following their breakup, as if that will in some manner help repair the injury. The burden of Sun-mi's terrible secret takes a much heavier toll. Haunted by visions of blood stream oozing from walls and battling having a phantom pregnancy, she watches Jon-ho in the distance just before making fateful reference to him. In absolutely chilling contrast, Jun-gu shows no remorse the darkness dwelling in this apparently respectable academic is introduced home in the devastating scene handful of auds will forget. Carefully up-to-date perfs play an important role to help keep willing audiences in an ultra-low-key drama that's interspersed with sudden bursts of electricity when these troubled figures can express pent-up feelings. Jeong Yoon-kyung is particularly impressive since the housewife with alongside nothing left to cling to. Pristine lensing by Lee Sun-youthful together with an attractive score by Roh's regular collaborator Jaesin Lee will be the standouts from the first-class technical package.Camera (color), Lee Sun-youthful editor, Choi Hyun-sook music, Jaesin Lee art director, Sin Eon-yeop costume designer, Lee Su-wong appear (stereo system system), Kong Tae-won assistant director, Chung Ki-hyuk casting, No Chi-hyung. 10 Great Disney Images Worth Having to pay to determine in 3-D

The Lion King three dimensional’s box-office success is admirable by itself, but Disney is searching to increase its creation of 3-D reboots inside a staggering way: Beauty and also the Animal, The Small Mermaid, Finding Nemo and Monsters Corporation. are returning to theaters in 3-D over the following 2 yrs. That’s fine, however i can think about 10 great Disney pictures using their company animated classics that deserve full-bodied restoration: 10. Pocahontas’s inspired kayaking Pocahontas, the very first movie to train us our Native American forebears were just stern-searching Kardashians, featured probably the most gorgeous musical sequences from the decade with “Just Round the Riverbend” and it is ferocious waterfall imagery. Sure, “Colors from the Wind” may be the Oscar-champion, but 3-D could elevate this sequence the actual way it assisted The Lion King’s stunning character. There’s another thing so… Working Girl about “Just Round the Riverbend.” Carly Simon should sing it within the 3-D version while a shoulder-padded Joan Cusack plays Meeko. 9. Each time Jafar brandishes that tacky staff in Aladdin Jafar, the finest villain of the or other motion picture epoch, is 3-D by himself: His twisted beard, Aerosmithian sneers and lush costuming pop on screen like kettle corn. That doesn’t mean his gilded cobra staff warrants anything under a 3-D overhaul. Its pulsing evil eyes would turn audiences into sputtering street rats. 8. Pinocchio’s dubious debut 70 years after it first opened up, Pinocchio continues to be a marvel. The titular puppet boy’s expressions are delicious and realistic, the terror from the story is effective, along with a disturbing surreality remains within the proceedings (which isn't unlike Awesome World). The “I’ve Got No Strings” bit could be splendid in 3-D, also it’d make Pinocchio’s jaunty steps seem like something from Toy Story. 7. Fantasia’s rapturous “Rhapsody” If any movie may be worth returning to in alarming 3-D, it’s Fantasia 2000. You could have your “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” bit to yourself we like the urban, sophisticated “Rhapsody in Blue” section in which the New york city skyline is tracked, colored in and investigated. The scaffold sequences would look as grand because the eye-popping door world from Monsters Corporation. 6. Kaa’s hissy hypnosis Sterling Holloway’s sinister voice work helps to make the Jungle Book’s lizard Kaa so captivating, however the character’s slithering and winding was pretty revelatory in 󈦤. Since we’ve already learned that hypnosis is really a 3-D treat because of Jafar, I implore Disney to reopen Mowgli’s story and permit this to freaky python undulate over audience’s heads. 5. The evil full’s terrifying mirror buddy in Snow Whitened Vanity! That ancient villain standard. Snow Whitened began everything for Wally in 1937, and all sorts of these years later, the look from the Evil Full’s mirror and also the chilling face therein are very unsettling. Since you will find a minimum of two Snow Whitened projects slated for next season, it seems Hollywood hasn’t forgotten that menacing mirror either. Charlize Theron, will work it! 4. Winnie the Pooh’s Heffalump psychedelia I’ve sputtered incredulously relating to this before, but Winnie the Pooh has loved some trippy adventures. The nuttiest one performed in the Disney feature The Numerous Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, in which the adorable toy is affected with a hallucinatory dream by which Heffalumps, Woozles and honeypots conspire to terrorize him. Let’s discover their whereabouts leap at us too! 3. Toy Story’s unholy claw The crane aliens at Toy Story’s Pizza Planet express our awe well: The claw selects who'll go and who'll stay! Individuals metallic tentacles canted vertiginously over Buzz Lightyear’s mind alllow for the film’s creepiest moment. Even worse, Sid’s the main one operating the controls. I’d pay a sweet $16 (again!) to determine individuals teeth clamp lower with an audience of preteens. 2. Aladdin and Jasmine’s travels with Peabo Bryson Though Beauty and also the Animal’s ballroom scene may be the much-recommended achievement of early 󈨞s Disney, I’d say Aladdin’s miracle carpet ride ranks like a transcendent movie treasure similar to E.T.’s ride a bike. The song is lovely, the vistas are obvious and three-D would give a whole " new world " of splendor. Carpeting’s actions alone could be heartstopping. 1. Cruella p Vil’s slight road rage An unconventional No. 1, yes, but 101 Dalmatians’s Cruella P Vil, that gaunt Tallulah Bankhead clone, looks positively deranged throughout her climactic brush with road rage at movie’s finish. Just like Pongo, Perdita and also the young puppies escape on the truck, Cruella flies right into a fury that will traumatize Jafar, Kaa and each Heffalump. Individuals eyes! The 3-D can also be the horror of three-D, and when Cruella’s rigid mandible can hurtle at us in jarring reality, we like a moviegoing populace have to witness it.

Paramount Set Sail With Aronofsky's Noah

Joint production with New RegencyLast we heard, back in June, the newly Wolverine-free Darren Aronofsky was shopping his $130m Noah project around Hollywood. New Regency were always keen, and there was interest from Fox and Summit, but the deal is now done, and Aronofsky's Noah will be floating ahead at Paramount. It's been a development process of Biblical proportions, dating back at least to 2007, when Aronofsky told Empire that his angle was, "the traditional Noah story, but told in a serious way... more the sci-fi version than comedy..." Construction of the Ark was put aside in favour of smaller projects, but post-Black Swan, Aronofsky clearly now felt the time was nigh. It seems the right people in the right places agreed.John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator) is aboard to polish up the initial script drafts by Aronofsky and Ari Handel, and as well as directing, Aronofsky will produce alongside Scott Franklin."Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family's journey," says Aronofsky. "The imaginations of countless generations have sparked to this epic story of faith. It's my hope that I can present a window into Noah's passion and perseverance for the silver screen."The film's now on the studio fast-track, with the plan to get it into production by spring 2012.

It's October, So Where Are All the Horror Movies?

You'd think that filling the October film release schedule with horror movies would be a no-brainer -- this is the time of year when moviegoers are eager to be terrified -- yet only three chillers are booked between now and Halloween. Which raises the question: Where have all the horror movies gone? Fans in the mood for fright have just three options this month. (Four, if you count 'Dream House,' which opened on the last day of September and, judging by its poor box office performance, is going to slink out of theaters quickly.) This weekend, there's 'The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence,' which is opening in only a handful of theaters. Next weekend comes the reboot of 'The Thing.' The following week is 'Paranormal Activity 3.' Then, zip. (There's also Kevin Smith's 'Red State,' which some are calling a horror movie, though it's arguably a psychological thriller/political polemic.) So, where did the scary movies go? In part, August. In recent years, late summer has become a haven for horror. By the last two weeks in August, the studios' slates of action blockbusters are spent, but there are still genre movie fans hungry for jolts and shocks. Recent Augusts have seen such horror hits as 'The Final Destination,' 'Halloween II' and 'The Last Exorcism.' This year, in the last two weeks of August and the first two weeks of September, there were six horror releases: 'Fright Night,' 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark,' 'Evidence of a Haunting,' 'Shark Night 3D,' 'Apollo 18' and 'Creature.' The strategy seems to have backfired. With the exception of 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark,' none of these movies grossed more than $20 million. 'Paranormal Activity 3' - Trailer No. 2 Is that why there so few horror movies scheduled for October? Not really. In large measure, it's because of 'Paranormal Activity 3.' The found-footage-style horror franchise has replaced 'Saw' as the annual ritual for Halloween moviegoers. "'Saw' has dominated October for years," says Jeff Bock, a box office analyst and horror film expert at Exhibitor Relations Company. "Studios didn't dare open anything against it. ['Saw' distributor] Lionsgate really did have that month to itself." Now, however, "'Paranormal Activity' has that slot," he says. Then again, there's another possible explanation for the October dearth. "We're just having an off year." As for fans, if you feel deprived this Halloween season, there's not much consolation for you. The next mini-glut of horror movies doesn't come until January, another traditional dumping ground for movies that studios have little hope for. You'll have to keep your fears in check until then. "Courageous," which wasn't prone to exceed $6 000 0000, showed up just slightly under weekend estimations for Summit's cancer comedy "50/50," grossing a forecasted $8.9 million. The pair could switch-flop when actuals are released on Monday, since some studio estimations have "Courageous" before "50/50."Bowing soft a couple of days ago, Morgan Creek's "Dream House," that's being distribbed by Universal, showed up at No. 6, by getting an thought $8.2 million, while last century Fox's laffer "What's Your Number?" postponed with $5.6 000 0000. ("Dream House" was prone to hit a double-digit opening low-finish pre-weekend predictions for "What's Your Number?" were at $6 000 0000.)The bar was decreased from last weekend, but a comprehensive swath of photos doing mostly OK biz saved overall totals roughly 5% while watching same frame a year ago.
